Damon Tindall - Author of the Month

Here is a little about my journey to this point!

I have a background in Teaching and in HR (Human Resources) Administration, but just on six years ago I had an ‘Ah Ha’ moment, that changed my life and financial journey forever.. At the time I was coming toward the end of a Masters in Business (Human Resource Management and Marketing) when I started reading Robert Kiyosaki’s best sellers ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ and ‘The Business School’; many of you may have also read these wealth creation texts. It was the wake-up call I needed, as I realised that my ambition to climb the corporate ladder was never going to give me the type of time freedom or financial wealth that I desired.

For those who know me well, they know that lifestyle is very important to me. I love nothing more than being able to play golf or to travel; or to even spend time with my family and friends when I want to do it! When you have a boss and are tied to a J.O.B these are not options that you so easily have!

What Kiyosaki’s books opened me up to; was that I needed to be my own boss, to own my own business and to have money work for me, rather than vice-versa. So I looked very closely at Franchising, primarily because I wanted to tap into a proven system and be mentored by someone who had already built a successful business. This was important to me because despite having a business degree, I had no real practical experience in setting up a business or marketing and operating systems. It was also about this time that I came across a home business advert with a network marketing company. Now I admit that I was initially sceptical because I had, had a previous negative experience in MLM (i.e. made no money and was burnt by a few good friends). When I checked out this particular company I saw how Network marketing could be done a lot differently to traditional MLM and how it compared far more favourably to Franchising; some of the advantages I saw included:

• You can start part-time without having to give up your full-time job, but with the potential for the income stream to develop to the point that it can replace your full-time income.
• A proven franchise-like business system that requires a low initial investment and very low overheads.
• Exciting travel opportunities and legitimate tax breaks in having your own Network Marketing home business.
• The opportunity to work with motivated and driven entrepreneurs that have come from a variety of educational and employment backgrounds, but share a common passion for improving the lives of others and determining their own financial future.
• The ability to leverage off some of the fastest growing business and economic trends.

The more I checked out the fundamentals of this company and the founders’ vision behind this particular Network Marketing Home Business opportunity, the more impressed I became; as such I decided to put my first ‘negative’ experience in MLM into perspective:

Fast-forward two years and despite being busy with my job, completing my Masters in Business and playing sport; I was able to build my Network Marketing business to the point where I had replaced my full-time income and then I quit my job! Over the last three or so years I have built my business to the point where not only do I have financial security, but I can take holidays or travel, or play golf when I want! Living life on my terms is something that is important to me and this business has given that opportunity in spades!

In the current economic climate I am so glad that I have a Plan B; especially given the enormous financial uncertainty. Can you afford not to recession-proof your income too?
