Economic Climate – Doom or Gloom for Network Marketing

Welcome to 2009 and this month’s edition of Marketing Magic. I have decided to take a break this month on our series of “putting the net into network marketing” because we have had many emails from people concerned about the current economic climate and how it will affect our industry. I would like to take this opportunity to voice my thoughts on how you can go about handling these challenging (or opportunistic) times.

Now you know what we have been up to let’s discuss how the economic downturn may affect your business.

I must start by saying that I am no economist and I do not have any qualifications to discuss this topic in detail, but from recent experience I know that those who market themselves and their business correctly will reap the rewards. Those who use it as an excuse, will suffer.

What do I mean by this?
Well, if there is one thing I know about running a successful network marketing business it is based on how well you can build and retain a team of enthusiastic distributors and loyal customers. Finding customers is one thing, but building a loyal customer base is another. It requires both good product education and more importantly customer satisfaction. If you have not focused on customer retention by delivering a good product experience, if customers are forced to make financial sacrifices, your products could be the first to go and naturally your business is likely to feel the effects.

Distributers can also be easy to find, but keeping them motivated, particularly during difficult economic times can be challenging. If you’re concerned about your business or pay cheque sliding, I advise you to start giving your customers and distributors a friendly phone call to provide them with the good customer experience they deserve. There is no better way to start the new year than to make a friendly phone call and thank them for their support in 2009.

The Good News
Despite the recent economic climate, reality is we should all be really excited about the hard times to come. Why? Because recession leads to opportunities. During a recession (and depression) many people start to experience financial problems (not that we would ever wish this upon anyone) – but for Network Marketing this is a good thing. It helps to remind people that what they thought was a secure job, may not be as secure as they once thought and the only one you can rely on is yourself. With an increasing supply of people experiencing difficulties there becomes a greater demand for the services we can provide, need I remind you we are in the problem solving business.

If you can market yourself correctly in these difficult times you stem to profit handsomely. In particular if you can market yourself as leader, people will be willing to do what you do, in order to have what you have. And remember, the key is to be genuinely interested in helping others, not just yourself.

But that’s not all I am excited about, I believe people will opt to stay at home to save money rather than going out for dinner or to the gym or to sporting events etc.

So why would I be excited about this? Before I answer the question, let me start by asking you this; how do you spend your spare time? Do you jump on the internet to facebook your friends or surf the net?

If this sounds like you, trust me, you are not alone. Millions of people all over the world will are doing the same thing. You may be thinking; Troy how can we get excited about this? This will make it even harder for us to prospect people as they will be behind closed doors.

The solution is - market yourself online. If more and more people are going to spend more and more time at home, then the best way to get into their homes without physically entering their home is through the internet. And the best thing about the internet is that you can be in hundreds of different people’s home at any given time of the day. So why not capitalise on this?

A good place to start is by entering our competition by clicking here or start building your own website using SBI.

In conclusion, the economic downturn is totally in your favour yet it is up to you to take the full advantage of this opportunity. And the best way to start is by setting yourself some goals for 2009.

I like to revise my existing goals and set new ones at the end of each year for two reasons. One, it gives me a timeframe of when to evaluate the previous year’s goals, and two, it is a great time to reflect on my “why”. If you have read my vision, you would understand that I am a big family man. So my “why” revolves around my family and I know I am not alone here.

This time of year there is a good chance you will be spending quality time with your family. It is my belief that you can set the most heartfelt and emotional goals during this period compared with any other time of the year. Experience tells me, goals with these characteristics are more achievable than any materialistic goal you can set. I encourage you to take full advantage of this time to set your goals for 2009. If you don’t know where to start, then visit our goal setting webpage by clicking here for a quick refresher.

On behalf of our team at Network Marketing Business School we thank you for all your support throughout the year and wish you happy holidays/new-year and a prosperous 2009.

Until next month

Happy Networking
