How to set up a Blog

You can set up your MLM blog in a jiffy with minimal technical expertise. All you need to start blogging is internet access and an email address. There are many free blogging services that can have you up and running in a few minutes. Just follow these easy steps and be sure to research your MLM Company’s online policies before starting to set up a blog:

There are several different types of services that will help you create and maintain your blog. Select the service based on the purpose of the blog, budget and your technical abilities. There are plenty of options to host your blog as well as many free services. A stand-alone blogging platform is hosted by you on your own domain and is typically for the technically savvy blogger. If you are creating your first blog or don't have a great deal of technical expertise, then a hosted blog service is the way to go. Most bloggers opt for the hosted platform because it is easier to set up and maintain the blog.

A hosted blog service hosts your blog at their domain. They make creating a blog easy by providing well-designed templates, a web address, and rich text editors that allow you to create posts without any special technical knowledge. Some of the most popular hosted blogging platforms include WordPress.com, Blogger, Typepad, LiveJournal, Xanga, and Vox.

Once you create your account, the system will ask you for a blog name and then a blog address or URL. Searching for a URL that is not taken is probably the only delay you will run into. Please do keep in mind that a blog's name should ideally be memorable, short, and easy to spell. It is a good suggestion to check with your MLM group and take suggestions on the blog name.

Step 3: Select the Blog Template

Now it's time to choose the template for your blog. Typically most blogging providers offer several templates to select from. Don't worry if you change your mind on a particular template because you can always go back and change it later. Once the template has been chosen, you can start posting.

Step 4: Create and publish your Blog

Most blogging services have rich text editors similar to word processors to enter your content. Enter the blog title first and start writing content for your first posting. When you're done writing your post, publish it or save your post as a draft for later publication. Most blogging providers offer settings to customize the “look and feel” of your blog. You have options to add freebies like buttons, images, guest books, comment boxes for readers' input, etc. One can add images of latest products to generate interest in the product range. Have a ticker (if available) to display latest news, updates and events. Also adding videos of products is a hot trend.

1. Announce your blog to the world - the first thing that you can do is to use a service like Pingomatic to ping a few servers.
   

2. ubmit your blog to blog directories - most blog directories require you to have a few blog posts up before they will approve your site, so make sure you have at least six posts posted. BlogTopSites is a good directory of blogs.
   

3. Implement Subscription Chiclets - your downlines may use a variety of RSS readers and you want to make it easy for them to subscribe to your feed from those RSS readers. Feedburner provides scripts to create those subscription chiclets. Freedo Style is a good tool to incorporate RSS feed from any feed on your blog.
   

4. Provide email subscriptions to your blog - you will be amazed how many users want to read your blog via their email. It's easy to set that up. You can get a script to do that by registering at Bloglet.
   

5. Claim your blog on Technorati - by registering at Technorati and claiming it, you have an ability to put your photo with your profile. Your blog comes up in the search results with your profile when users search on Technorati.
   

6. Geo-tag your blog - Feedmap provides a simple way of associating your location co-ordinates (city, zip) to your blog. It is a great idea to identify bloggers nearby and future downlines in the neighborhood using this service.
   

7. Get Clustrmaps for your blog - show visitor count and the regions from where the prospects are coming.
   

8. Spread the word - provide tools for your downlines to promote your business – AddThis is a popular sharing tool used by many bloggers. Use Facebook, LinkedIn, Myspace and/or other social networks and include your MLM blog feed or URL.
