Did you know we are living in exponential times?

There are over 2.7 billion searches performed on Google each month..... To whom were these questions addressed before Google.

The number of mobile phone text messages sent and received every day exceeds the world’s population.

More then 3000 books are published everyday.

It is estimated that a week’s worth of New York Times contains more information than a person was likely to come across over a whole lifetime in the 18th century.

It is estimated that 1.5 exabytes (1.5 x 10 18) of unique new information will be generated worldwide this year..... That’s estimated to be more than in the previous 5000 years.

The amount of technical information is doubling every 2 years.

Predictions are that e-paper will be cheaper than real paper

Have you guessed what I am talking about yet?

**The Information Age**

So how does the information age related to you and your website?

The way to answer this question is with another question: why do people use the internet? The answer is quite simple - to find solutions to their problems!

We have said this before, but we will say it again because it is one of the most important concepts to understand about the internet. It doesn’t matter whether people are searching for a bus timetable or a new job, people are using the internet to find the answer to their questions and /or to solve their problems. Therefore, the secret to a successful online network marketing business is to position yourself on the internet in order to capitalise on people looking for your solution. Then why do so many people get it wrong? Whilst there are plenty of great websites out there that have the potential to solve people’s problems; they never get the opportunity to do so because they are not positioned well enough to be found.

It doesn’t matter how good your solution is (product or business opportunity), if people can’t find it then you are never going to make a sale. When you look at the internet, it’s not the prettiest or most knowledgeable websites that are the most successful, it is those that are positioned well, such that they get high volumes of visitor traffic (people going to that website).

Search engines (Google, Yahoo etc.) allow people on the internet to find the answers to their questions and solve their problems. Therefore, if you can favourably position yourself in the search engines then naturally you can have a high volume of traffic (potential customers) coming to your websites to review what you have to offer.

So where does the information age come into all of this?

Well, you know that famous saying for traditional business “location, location, location”, for those associated with the internet is: “Information, Information, Information”. Internet surfer’s are not looking for your product, they are looking for information to solve their problems. So, this is where your website comes into play……build a quality, informative, problem solving website. Each page of your website should address a niche related question that someone needs answered.

You may be thinking, why do people want to read heaps of information before they find their answer? Wouldn’t they just want to find their answer straight away then buy that solution? If only it was that easy! Put yourself in the ‘internet consumer’s’ shoes. I know that every time I land on a website, I am sceptical about the information and what they are selling. Do you feel this way? Most people do. Internet consumers are conservative and tend to shop around to find the best deal.

So if internet consumers are conservative how do you convince them that you’re the real deal and that they should be buying your products or services?

Provide them with quality information. The idea is to get the internet surfer’s attention (graphic, headline, opening statement etc), and through your quality content (information) gain their trust. By providing your visitors with a wealth of niche related information you help to build credibility and trust with your visitor which can assist you to make a sale. This whole process is called, Pre-selling.

We use the term pre-selling because they may not even know that they are shopping. They have landed on your website for answers, so if you over deliver them with high-value content your visitor will begin to respect your website as a knowledgeable source and become willing to buy what you have to recommend.

Let’s look at 99% of the websites on the internet today. Most of them have very little content and the content that is on them is a blatant sell. You have probably landed on these pages yourself; see if you can remember back to a website you have visited recently that was a blatant sell. How long did you spend on that website? Probably not long.

If there is anything I have learnt in network marketing it is that “people do not like to be sold, but people love to buy”. This is no different on the internet. Write down this message and remember it or better yet, pin it on your wall. Every time you go to write another page for your website, read this and it will help you write in a way that enables your readers to see you as a friend and someone who they can trust. People will buy from people they trust. So the next time you go to build another page for your website try giving this a go and you will see your sales soar.

In summary building a website that delivers lots of quality niche related content is the secret to pre-selling your visitors and increasing your sale conversions, but there is another advantage to this approach. The role of search engines such as Google and Yahoo is to provide their users with quality information that helps to satisfy their search. If you can build a website that delivers quality information for your niche, before long the search engines will start to reward you by referring you more and more visitors. Using this website building technique you now have more visitors and more sales conversions. These 2 factors are the foundation of a successful internet business and building a website with lots of content can help to satisfy both.

Whilst researching and writing content for your niche can be time consuming our experience has shown it will reward you well in the long run.

In next month’s marketing magic edition were going to look at choosing a site concept such that you can capitalise on this content building technique.
