Who is Troy Rocavert?Have you ever sat down and tried to write about yourself? It’s amazing how hard we find it! I guess it comes down to human beings being slightly modest and not wanting to feel like we are big-noting ourselves. When I think about it, I see myself as just a normal country boy with a lot of ambition to better improve myself and others. But when I dig deeper into my feelings and my background, I find that I am incredibly proud of who I am and what type of person I am growing into. By saying this, I feel I am boasting a little. But really, we should all be proud of who we are and what we strive to become. If not; what is the point of this life? My life began in Cowra, a small country town in central NSW, Australia. I really dedicate my fortunate up-bringing to my parents, who laid the foundations of my beliefs, hard working attitude and personality. As I write this it is November 2008. I am married to the most incredible woman in the world, Emily Rocavert and we have a child together, Grace with another on the way. My family means the world to me and I can honestly say, I would be less than half the man I am today without them. The bible says “behind every successful man there is a good woman”. Before I was married I probably didn’t believe this, but I have found that being so changes your whole perspective on life. So in right respect, who I am today, I owe 50% to my parents and the other 50% to my wife - meaning I would be nothing without my family. When I talk to many successful people, I usually hear an incredible story of their upbringing and I am gob-smacked at how they ever pulled themselves out from where they were, to become the person they are today. Hearing stories such as this re-enforces just how lucky I have been for the first 28 years of my life and how they have set me up in good stead to achieve incredible heights.
Troy was born to be an EntrepreneurOn my 7th birthday, my auntie gave me a book that changed my life forever. If you have kids then I highly recommend you get them to read “Rent a Kid” by Larry Adler. This book gives kids great ideas to start little businesses to earn some pocket money.I grew up on a small hobby farm and was lucky enough to live next door to my Nan and Pop who owned a large farm. With a farm comes many opportunities, but the fortunate ability we all possess as a kid is the creativity of our mind. I have not read “Rent a Kid” since I was 9 years old, but one thing that I can remember was that it inspired me to want to mow lawns for money. This dream was short lived however as I remember being disappointed because our farm was too far away from our neighbours and it took me an hour to push the mower between each house. Had I have given up then I would probably never had grown to where I am today. Even as a child I wasn’t going to let a minor setback hold me back from achieving my dreams, On that same weekend, to reward me for my efforts my father took me fishing to Wyangala dam, a nearby water catchment. It was there that an idea came to me – worms – fisherman need worms. Long story short, for the next 6-years I sold worms to the local fisherman for bait and to families for composting. During my school years, mathematics came naturally to me, but English was a real battle. After many years struggling at school, I was accepted into Wollongong University and completed a diploma of Mechanical Engineering. University wasn’t easy either, both academically and financially. My parents were well below middle class and I had to be self funded. While everyone else were lapping up the sun on the beach and having lots of fun during university holidays, I went back to the farm to plant and harvest pumpkins, of which I sold on the side of the road to help pay for my next semester. As you can imagine pumpkins were not enough to pay for those expensive University fees. So I also started a business with my Dad called “Watch it Grow”. This involved bagging manure and mulch, which we sold it to local nurseries throughout the state. After graduating from University I got a job at the Steelworks in Port Kembla as a Project Engineer and it wasn’t long after that I was introduced to network marketing. After seeing how corporate business operated for a few years, I could see my skills and my passion for helping people better utilised through network marketing. Like most network marketers, when I first joined the industry I had limited knowledge of marketing. Even with good business practices I struggled to break even. With a degree in Engineering and extensive experience in problem solving in small business, I knew there had to be a better way. After a little research and with help from my peers, I soon discovered the power of marketing and I have since developed a strategy that has completely changed my family’s life.
Why did Troy choose Network Marketing?I’m not going to concoct a creative reason why I started network marketing. The answer at the time was simple - Money. To be truly honest, it was not exactly the money but what I could do with the money that really attracted me to the industry. Money buys time and time buys the things we like to do.Looking back however I realise that this industry offers a lot more than money and probably the most important message I would like to share is that since working in the industry I have learnt many things about myself and life that I never dreamt I would find on a network marketing journey. As a result of my experience in the industry, my initial desire for money has been superseded by the concept of being able to enjoy more time-freedom and being able to ensure that others enjoy the quality of life that I do. Too many networkers are in it for themselves and my advice to everyone is that regardless of how successful you think you are or want to be, the true satisfaction with this business model comes from helping and watching others succeed. As the famous saying goes “a picture paints a thousand words” – this is what my picture looks like.
