- Create Network Marketing Leaders

Now that your network marketing business is established, how do we turn your current network marketing business that has been earning a hundred dollars a month for the past 6 months into a multi-million dollar empire with walk-away residual income? You need to develop a team of network marketing leaders.

Once established in any network marketing business, the key to long-term success and a residual income is to develop a few key downline members to take on a leadership role to develop your empire. These high quality distributors are those members of your downline who are not only passionate about achieving their goals but are also actively working their business without you needing to hold them accountable. The best associates are the people who once shown what to do, go and do it, actively recruiting and training new distributors and by doing so continually contribute to the growth of your downline. The more network marketing leaders you have in your downline, the more work that gets done and essentially the less work you have to do, until it gets to the point where you can literally walk away and get paid a residual income.

How Do We Create Network Marketing Leaders?

Once your network marketing business is established you will need to dedicate some time towards developing a selected few members of your team to take on an influential role. There is nothing worse than an inactive downline or one that stops working when you do. Therefore by investing some of your time towards mentoring and coaching some of your downline to take on a prominent, leadership role you will not only help to share the workload, but also ensure that your business continues to be productive with or without your assistance.

This approach creates a win-win for both you and your team. Your top distributors are happy because they have the support they need to allow their business to grow and in return you get rewarded for their success as your organisation continues to grow.

Why is it that in most workplaces people are reluctant to help their colleagues succeed? Because by helping others to know what you know creates competition, which could in turn help someone else get your next promotion. One of the main attractions for me to join the network marketing industry was the concept that my success would be a direct result of helping others be successful. Instead of working against one another to climb the corporate ladder, we would be working as a team where we would share in mutual success.

Although we would like to hope that everybody we recruit into the business will become a network marketing leader one day, the reality is that this rarely happens. Therefore, in the interest of time and the growth of your business, instead of trying to make your entire downline ultimate super productive performers, it is best to concentrate quality time on a few selected individuals that are most likely to take on this leadership role.

Your ideal long-term goal should be to develop at least one leadership role for each leg of your business. Having said this, you will find that you get the best results if you develop a team of leaders within the same organisation (particularly in the Binary Plan) such that they can work together and support each other. This also helps to take some of the pressure off you. When these individuals have started to take on a directive role you can then refocus your attention towards developing the next wave of network marketing leaders and so on. The following is a list of strategies commonly used among successful network marketers to help create leaders within their organisation:

  • provide support, mentoring and positive reinforcement for your down line
  • lead by example (be a role model and make calls with them, on the job training)
  • indentify goals, offer personalised incentives and hold them accountable
  • promote the use of tracking sheets or progress reports (accountability)
  • reward and recognise individual and team achievements
  • set regular team rank advancement goals to promote teamwork
  • hold regular training events for your active downline
  • socially interact with your developing leaders (build a strong relationship - not just a working relationship)
  • set homework activities and give responsibility to measure commitment
  • attend corporate events such as conventions together
  • gain support and advice from upline leaders (those who trained you)
Leadership training events can be very useful and should be tailored towards developing their management skills. Examples may include:
  • personal development (outsource from the experts)
  • discuss positive experiences and maintain motivation
  • identify barriers to success and methods to overcome them
  • planning and brainstorming
  • goal setting and accountability
  • indentify new hot-shots and potential problem associates
  • share scenarios and experiences that people can learn from
  • highlight common mistakes and how you overcome them

Not all of your potential gun recruiters will step up and actively take on a directive role regardless of the training they receive. In this instance your time could be better spent indentifying the next potential hot-shot. As with recruiting, developing leaders can often be a “numbers game”.

When you do successfully develop downline members to take on a managerial role, to the point where they can run their organisation independently, it is important that you continue to interact and communicate with these select few as now and into the future they will be key players in the success of your organisation.
